The Sky Blue line in Coventry City Centre

.
The idea for the sky blue line, to guide people from the train station to the city centre, came from Derek Nisbit during the 3-day online conversation called CovJam, an event to encourage ideas and dialogue from the people of Coventry.

The sky blue line starts at the station, goes under the ring road in the subway, through Greyfriars Green, along Warwick Row and then into Bull Yard. It leads directly to one of the city centre tourist and visitor direction signs so people can follow these signs to other parts of the city centre and its attractions.

Councillor Lindsley Harvard, Cabinet Member City Services said: "I am delighted that the line has been completed. CovJam was a unique event - a first for a local authority and one which has the potential to become a blueprint for cities around the world. For me, the best bit about it is was the wonderful and creative ideas that local people came up with.

"The blue line was voted the number one idea by people taking part in the jam so that's why it has been completed first - but we will look at some of the other ideas too to see which we can turn into a reality.

"Our station isn't far from the city centre, just a short walk in fact. But if you are visiting the city for the first time it can be difficult to know which way to go - so like the very best ideas this will be really practical and useful."

Derek said, "I'm thrilled that my idea's been taken seriously. I'm looking forward to seeing the blue line and I'm sure I'll feel proud to know that it was my idea."

Coventry City Council held the world's first city-wide online conversation with nearly 900 local residents, businesses and public bodies. With support from IBM, the interactive forum was named CovJam. Participants debated ways Coventry could attract inward investment, sustain employment in the local area, personal security and how quality of life could be improved for all the city's residents.

Jammers came up with, and then voted on, low cost ideas that could be implemented quickly.

So if you are a visitor to Coventry and want to know how to get to the train station on foot, or how to get into the city centre from the train station just follow the sky blue line
