Coventry has lost much of its large scale manufacturing over the last 20 years and the city is attracting more hi-tech, high skill jobs. This is illustrated by the Jaguar - Land Rover (JLR) large research and development site at Whitley. The prestige car manufacturer employs over 3,000 people at the Whitley site and the company have a ready made pool of talent to fill their graduate jobs in Coventry; with top candidates from Coventry's two universities being recruited by JLR every year.

The University of Warwick has a Science Park right next to the main campus in Coventry. This park has many hi-tech companies which are doing cutting edge and innovative work. These businesses need intelligent well qualified staff and offer graduate jobs in Coventry from time to time.

Coventry University has a Technology Park in the city centre which has attracted cutting edge businesses. The park has also given Coventry graduates the opportunity to set their own businesses up with favourable office rents and other assistance such as advice, mentoring and training in how to launch a new business and IT support.
