Jobs in Coventry City Council
Coventry City council jobs are still being advertised although they are few and far between. Most of these jobs are in education and especially teaching.
Recently the council have shed 500 jobs as a result of huge funding cuts from the coalition government. The council claim that £38m has been lost from the city's economy due to a 10 per cent cut from central government and the loss of other funding such as grants to community groups. This has resulted in job losses and the city council expect a total of 1000 jobs to be lost over four years.
Projects aimed at dealing with unemployment, crime, anti social behaviour, drug abuse, bullying in schools and sure start projects in schools are all affected and jobs have been lost in these projects.
The council say that they are doing all they can to avoid compulsory redundancies. They say that £5m will be saved by axing 100 managerial posts over the next year.
Outsourcing has led to job losses, for example the street lighting in Coventry has been outsourced to Balfour Beatty in a contract worth £230m over 25 years.
At the time of writing there are 59 Coventry City Council job vacancies and nearly all of them are in education and training.
